(Truckee, California October 25, 2016) — Mountain action sport safety net, The High Fives Foundation has released its most impactful documentary yet. “Five Critical Mistakes” is the sixth installment of the B.A.S.I.C.S. safety education series touring schools and ski industry events across the country this winter.
“The most serious stuff I’ve had happen to me in the mountains were not in these extreme type scenarios,” says action sports legend Jeremy Jones. “I’ve lost more friends in my home resort than in the surrounding backcountry.” Jones is featured throughout the film sharing important safety messaging
The documentary depicts the stories of five High Fives Athletes recovering from major injuries in the mountains. They share safety tips through the lens of hindsight.
The B.A.S.I.C.S. series began in 2010 as a collaboration with Red Bull athlete J.T. Holmes who wanted a “way to catch people before they crash.” Since then, the program has produced six films that have reached a combined audience of over 185,000 through live presentations at schools, ski resorts and industry events, and of course with online views.
The film has garnered an official endorsement of the National Ski Patrol and sponsorship from industry sponsors POC, Head Ski, Rome SDS, Sitour, Snocru and Freeskier Magazine with support from resorts like Squaw Valley, Sugarbush, Woodward/Boreal. Tahoe Forest Health System is also a major contributor.
“Of course we support athletes in the event that they’re injured, but our hope is to prevent these injuries from ever happening,” said High Fives executive director Roy Tuscany.
The film engages audience with the feel of a cinematic ski movie with footage acquired by Teton Gravity Research, Level One, and B.A.S.I.C.S director/producer Weston Walker.
Of course the film features an impressive cast list —
