Ellery Hollingsworth

Ellery Hollingsworth is among the best halfpipe snowboarders in the world.

Currently she's resting easy at the Mammoth Mountain Lodge waiting out a storm ahead of this weekend's US Snowboarding Grand Prix.

We hopped on the phone with her in between trips to the spa and the snack bar to find out what she could tell us about her snowboaring season thus far in 5 minutes or less...

 

 

Ellery - tell us the top five best things you did this winter so far:

1. I invented my own cookie flavor at Mimis Cookie Bar

2. I went to Norway

3. Went to the Canadian Open and went cat skiing with Gretchen Bleiler

4. Hung with my cat, Dennis

5. Quit drinking coffee

Why don't you like coffee anymore?

I really don't like the taste. I've just been drinking tea instead. Plus I don't really think I'm addicted to caffeine so it wasn't hard to give it. But coffee is such a big social thing so that part is hard to give up.

Airport moving escalator en route to Norway.

Name three things in Norway that you didn't expect to do or see…

Norway… mmmm. .. it gets dark at 4pm, like really early. It was cool being next to the ocean because we're always in the mountains. But being in the city of Oslo we got to compete and see the ocean, so that was cool. Plus we ate some good Norwegian food and I had jet lag the whole time.

Any photos of dinners that you had?

No I don't think I do - actually I didn't really like the food. Actually Norway wasn't even avery good trip.

What? You just said it was one of your top 5 things?

Well it was cool to go to Norway but I got hurt and went home early.

Cats are a big rage on the internet - tell me about your love of cats.

I'm not a big cat person but I got a kitten when I moved to SLC this fall and he was four weeks old when I got him. He's the most loving cat. I wake up every morning and he's sleeping on my head. He's like dog, he likes to play a lot.  We have a connection - I really love him. He has three middle names too > Dennis "Yoda-Snatcher-Megatron" Hollingsworth.

 

What's the Snatcher part?

If I'm putting on a shirt or scarf or anything that dangles or anything he won't let it go. If my sheets move he pounces on them and he just snatches everything in site.

How about your trip with Gretchen in Canada?

It was super fun to go up to Retallack right after X Games so we got some pow and then we had another city contest - we've had some interesting contests this year and that was a good one.

 

Any predictions for this weekend at the Grand Prix?

The weather's been rough so far, but I think there's some sun at the end of the tunnel so I think it will be a good one.
