Surfboards painted by "Art by Chase"
On Saturday, September 12 Nike 6.0 hosted a Surfaid charity benefit and special performance of Point Break Live at its San Clemente-based Motel No Tell. Attracting dozens of San Clemente locals and hosts of pro athletes heading home from the ASR tradeshow, the event was great time.
Organized by the lovely Maria Saori Renteria ( a BNQT Would You girl), the charity auctioned off painted works from Art by Chase, Andi Elloway, Sticky Shaw, and Corinne Mayer; prints from Scott Massey; and photography from Ian Ruhter and C.C. Sheffield. All told the benefit auction raised over $2,000 for SurfAid.

More wall art from "Art by Chase"
Point Break Live is a celebrated and hilarious stage rendition of the cult classic movie of the same name. Complete with presidential bank robbers, bad Gary Busey imitations and a lovable audience-provided Keanu Reeves, the show provides a high octane, adrenaline-filled reenactment of all your favorite scenes from the movie.
The courtship of Tyler, the tangled man-love between Bodhi and Johnny Utah and Angelo's double meatball sandwiches..."Utah - gimme two!" are just a few of the gems to enjoy.

Point Break Live gets intro'd as "Johnny Utah" looks
on.
Not just to be witnessed by the crowd, the performers in the play are diligent in their inclusion of the audience. Shootout blood spattering, hit the deck bank heists and water gun spray from the "50 year storm" are just a few of the interactive episodes that engage onlookers and wanna-be participants.
Of course it's the Keanu Reeves character, Special Agent Johnny Utah that really holds it together. Selected from the crowd, the amateur actor gets coached by a lovely stage hand via cue card provided lines and whatever Keanu characterizations are available through memory from Johnny's plethora of legendary lines - "Take your hands off me", "We're wasting time... and of course, "I am an FBI Agent!"

Bodhi rallies Roach and Grommet
The scenes crescendo and peak like the epic swells of the 50 Year Storm at Bells Beach. With Bodhi cornered, a fight scene ensues, then after heartfelt pleading, Johnny releases his nemesis to the justice of the ocean, because once Bodhi confronts his final challenge, Johnny knows..."He's not coming back."
