With massive great white shark lurking overhead, diver lays low; video

A scuba diver captured gripping video of a massive great white shark emerging from the cloudy water and approaching him overhead in a too-close-for-comfort encounter in Australia.

“How graceful is this great white shark!!!” RedBoats.com.au wrote on Facebook. “No threatening behavior at all. Truly a rare encounter, envied by many.”

Photo is a screen grab, showing the entire great white shark and the diver’s swim fin.

The face-to-face meeting off Cape Schanck on the southernmost tip of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria occurred last year, but the footage was newly released by RedBoats.com.au on Tuesday, according to 9 News.

The unidentified scuba diver smartly remained calmed—or so it seemed—and sought refuge amongst a kelp bed. The curious great white shark lazily swam by the diver, checking him out before moving on—gracefully.
