Scuba diver on training dive freaks out when great white shark appears

Cody Wabiszewski, training to become a certified scuba diver, was on his first dive of more than 60 feet off the Florida Keys when a great white shark swam into the group’s view.

“As soon as we hit 70 feet on the down line my scuba buddy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed,” Wabiszewski told FOX 13 News.

At first, Wabiszewski thought it was a bull shark.

“A second look and I realized it was a great white shark covered in amberjacks, African pompano, and a huge cobia,” he said.

The realization that it was a great white shark freaked Wabiszewski out.

“Oh God, that’s a great white shark!” he exclaimed through his mouthpiece. “Oh my God. It’s a great white shark.”

Fortunately, the divers, diving on the shipwrecked Thunderbolt, did not panic.

“When looking at the shark it is amazing, unbelievable, and freaking awesome, so you are not scared,” Wabiszewski told FOX 13 News. “I actually wanted to swim toward the shark to get better video but thought it would scare the shark away and wanted to see her more.

“It was only scary once the shark was gone. The visibility on the wreck was not great so that made it interesting once she swam away.”

The great white shark didn’t deter the group, however. It later made a second dive hoping to see it again.
