Golfers encounter ‘monster gator on green’

As they approached the tee box on a par 3 hole on a course in Florida, Sage Stryczny and his father noticed a major hazard on the green, one with a big bite.

A huge alligator known as Chubbs was resting on the green Saturday as it made its way from one pond to another at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto.

“He was a beast,” Stryczny told WFLA. “Me and my dad were about to hit off the tee…and saw him laying right on the green.”

Stryczny’s first thought was, “that’s a monster gator on the green.”

After hitting their shots, they came within 50 feet of the alligator. Stryczny’s video starts just as the beast was walking off the green and ends after it lies down.

“He took a lot of rests,” Stryczny told WFLA. “My dad says he’s never seen anything like it in all the years golfing. It was definitely a cool sight to see.”

According to Golf.com, Chubbs first became an internet sensation in 2016. He was originally nicknamed Boss of the Moss before an online poll determined its new moniker.

“He’s been legend at the local golf course ever since,” Golf.com wrote. “Staff at the course say the gator is often an attraction in itself, with many golfers paying the greens fee at Buffalo Creek hoping to grab a glimpse of the beast.”
